Sikorsky launched development of the S-76D, powered by the 1,000-s.h.p. Pratt & Whitney Canada PW210S turboshaft, in 2005. It was targeted at the offshore, executive, search-and-rescue and air ambulance markets. It incorporated a broad range of cockpit, cabin, and rotor enhancements to improve performance and range, ease pilot workload, reduce noise, and enhance the helicopter’s all-weather capability. This included an advanced Thales TopDeck integrated avionics system. The S-76D was certified by the FAA in October 2012, and deliveries began in January 2014.
