The Bell 407 mated a 206L4 airframe with a soft-in-plane rotor (based on the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior) with four composite blades, and a 790 shp (590 kW) Rolls-Royce 250-C47 turboshaft. It also had molded composite cabin sidewalls that increased the cockpit width by 2.5 inches (seven centimeters) and the rear cabin width by seven inches (18 centimeters). The 407 was certified by Transport Canada in February 1996 and had a higher cruise speed than the LongRanger and higher operating weights: 2,381 kg (5,250 lb.) max. internal weight, and a 2,722 kg (6,000 lb.) max. weight with an external load.
