Helicopters for sale

Helicopters for sale

Helicopters are unique aircraft, capable of taking off and landing vertically, and maneuvering forwards, backwards and sideways. The main advantages helicopters have over fixed-wing aircraft are the ability to land in small areas, reach inaccessible areas or hover in place. This makes them ideal for a huge variety of work, including air medical, aerial inspection, law enforcement, search-and-rescue, firefighting, transportation, tourism, agriculture and construction.

Helicopters fly by generating lift from rapidly rotating rotor blades around a vertical mast. Most helicopters have a single rotor configuration that requires a tail rotor or ducted fan to counter the torque created by the rotor blades. Other rotor configurations include tandem, intermeshing, transverse or coaxial rotors. These do not require anti-torque controls, thereby allowing all power to be used for lifting purposes.

Helicopters can be powered by piston or turbine engines. Piston-powered helicopters are less powerful and not as expensive to operate and maintain as turbine powered helicopters.

Helicopters powered by single piston engines (including types manufactured by Enstrom, Guimbal, Robinson and Schweizer) are smaller than turbine helicopters, and more restricted in terms of the amount of passengers or load they can carry. Turbine-powered helicopters, single-or multi-engine, produced by Airbus, Bell, Leonardo, MDH, Robinson and Sikorsky, are more powerful and generally capable of carrying more passengers and lifting heavier loads.
